Vegan Recipe of The Day: Vegan BBQ Hot Dogs

This vegan hot dog recipe is my second favorite, right next to the vegan hot dog recipe found in The Vegan Cookbook. These charred vegan hot dogs have quite a sour crispy taste to them, courtesy of the organic sauerkraut, pickles, pickle relish, and a bit of spice as well provided by peppercinis. If you're a fan of flavor-packing hot dogs, you're in luck!

Ingredients:

  • black pepper

  • 1/4 cup spicy peppercinis

  • 1 bottle of mustard, your choice of brand

  • 1/2 cup pickle relish

  • 1 cup sauerkraut

  • 4 whole pickles

  • 1 cup organic sauerkraut, raw preferred

  • 1 medium sweet onion, diced

  • 1 medium organic tomato, diced

  • 4 whole or sprouted grain hot dog buns

  • 4 vegan hot dogs (I recommend Field Roast Vegan Frankfurters . You can buy a pack of them for $8.19 at VeganEssentials.com.)

Directions:

  1. The first step is to cook your vegan hot dogs according to the instructions on the packaging. Heat your vegan hot dogs directly on a gas stove for a few seconds, to recreate the black charred look. If you don't have a gas stove you can also attempt to broil them in your oven or use an actual grill.

  2. Once the hot dogs are cooked, start by layering on your mustard. To top off the mustard, add in your choice of the included condiments. You can adjust the portions of each according to your preference and how sour and crunchy you want your experience to be. I recommend serving with a side of your favorite vegan chips.
